Travel-Games Raffle and Spotlight: Nightmare Millionaire (Oct 2023)

October was an eventful month at Travel-Games. We attended our first Board Game Convention in Essen, Germany, Had mentions on Shut up and Sit Down, Boardgame Dojo and Taylor's Taking Table, I turned 34…. the gear box fell out of the car (BOOOOOO!!!!), I met lots of interesting people in the boardgame space (Including Mr Poop!), I played some new games, I packed many parcels (I hope you have been enjoying the spooky season themed parcels!) and have written so many notes to you, fantastic people!!!, Thank you so much for supporting this impulsive little business.

The Raffle

But one of the most exciting things this month is the beginning of the Travel-Games Monthly Raffle. This was a hair-brained scheme I came up with while packing for Essen.

I don’t pay Google/Facebook/Instagram/etc for advertising, maybe I’m making a mistake? maybe I’m not? who knows? Instead, I have used my advertising budget to buy an assortment of games from independent publishers/designers and get them signed on the inside of the lid by the artists or designers (sometimes you even get a doodle!). So now I have a box of games that have been beautifully defaced by the designers and artists, and each month I will be giving away a signed copy of a game to one of you lovely people, who either follows Travel-Games or the Boardgame Dojo on social media or for every £10 they spend in the Travel-Games.co.uk store all these things get them virtual raffle tickets!

Along with the Raffle, we will try and spotlight the Game/Designer/Artist/Publisher associated with the giveaway for that month, so hopefully it will help promote more indie Designers, Publishers, and Artists.

Sai and one of our highly coveted Travel Games Hoodies

This hoodie is my favourite and is the only one with Halloween Hamish on it.

Spooky Season Raffle

So to kick things off for Oct we (Boardgame Dojo and Travel Games) are giving away two copies of Nightmare Millionaire signed by Sai Beppu (the artist). This was one of a couple of games signed by Sai when we met up for a Meal at Essen Spiel. Sai is well known for her art in Japanese board games. With some of my favorites being, Nana, Nightmare Millionaire, and the new Stained Glass art for Haggis. Sai also designed the Travel Games logo and mascot “Hamish” along with Christmas and Halloween variants.

Nightmare Millionaire Spotlight

Nightmare Millionaire is a Climbing/Shedding game where the aim of the game is to get rid of your cards as efficiently as possible. The gameplay is engaging and interactive and above all fun. It does have a bit of a luck element due to the scoring but I’ll let Eric get into that on the boardgame dojo podcast or video, as he’s way better at reviewing and explaining games than me. The artwork has a Japanese Nightmare Before Christmas vibe and the way the scoring works means no one is ever really out of the running for the game.

You can listen to Boardgame Dojos Podcast coverage Here, and watch their YouTube review Here.
