This game is Japanese but is language-independent and English rules are provided in the box.
MofuChip is a trick-taking card game with a whimsical theme: a girl daydreaming about which "mofu" (fluffy companion) she would like to spend time with.
The core gameplay follows must-follow trick-taking rules. Each player plays one card per trick, and the highest number in the lead color wins the trick.
The signature element is the double-sided "Mofu Chip." When playing a card, a player may add a chip to it, choosing which side faces up: the "+2" side adds 2 to the card's number, while the "Color" side lets the card be treated as the lead color. Deciding which side to use, and when, is the heart of the strategy.
Chips are awarded mostly to players who lose tricks, creating a balance between winning tricks for victory and gathering chips for future plays.
The player who wins the most tricks wins the game. In case of a tie, the number of remaining chips serves as the tiebreaker, making chip management just as important as taking tricks.
